Ingredients

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter cold
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup blueberries fresh or frozen

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons milk 2% or your favorite
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This high temperature will help create the fluffy, golden biscuits you desire.
  • Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  • Step 3: Incorporate Butter
Cut the cold unsalted butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step 4: Add Buttermilk
Pour in the buttermilk and gently fold in the mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough biscuits.
  • Step 5: Fold in Blueberries
Gently fold in the blueberries, taking care not to break them. If using frozen blueberries, there’s no need to thaw them first.
  • Step 6: Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Cut into desired shapes, using a biscuit cutter or knife.
  • Step 7: Bake
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Step 8: Make the Glaze
While the biscuits are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
  • Step 9: Glaze the Biscuits
Once the biscuits are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top of each biscuit. Allow the glaze to set before serving.
