Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sunflower oil or any neutral oil
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes optional

Instructions

  • In your large pot, add the sunflower oil and turn the heat to medium. Allow the oil to heat for about 2-3 minutes. To test if the oil is ready, drop in a couple of popcorn kernels. If they sizzle and spin, you’re good to go!
  • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the popcorn kernels to the pot. Give them a quick stir to ensure they are evenly coated in oil.
  • Place the lid on the pot, slightly ajar to allow steam to escape. This step is crucial for achieving that perfect crunch!
  • Every minute or so, gently shake the pot back and forth over the burner. This movement helps prevent the kernels from burning and ensures even popping.
  • As the kernels begin to pop, you’ll hear a delightful symphony of sounds. Once the popping slows down to about 2 seconds between pops, it’s time to remove the pot from the heat.
  • Carefully remove the lid (watch out for steam). Pour your freshly popped popcorn into a large bowl. Drizzle the melted butter over the top and sprinkle with sea salt to taste. If you’re using nutritional yeast, now’s the time to sprinkle it on for an extra flavor boost!

Equipment

  • Large pot with a lid
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving Bowl

Notes

  • Experiment with different oils for unique flavors.
  • Store leftover popcorn in an airtight container to maintain crunch.
  • Try adding spices for a savory twist!
