  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar adjust to taste

  • 3/4 to 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg optional
  • 1-2 cups add-ins fruits, nuts, or chocolate chips
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar for glaze
  • 1-2 tablespoons heavy cream to thin glaze
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste optional

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and kosher salt until well combined.
  • Step 3: Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the cold butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step 4: Pour in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. If using an egg, add that as well. Gently mix until the dough just comes together.
  • Step 5: If adding fruits, nuts, or chocolate chips, fold them in gently.
  • Step 6: On a floured work surface, turn out the dough and knead it gently just a few times until it holds together. Pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick and cut into desired shapes.
  • Step 7: Place your scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and sprinkle a little sugar on top.
  • Step 8: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool slightly.
  • Step 9: To make the glaze, whisk together the confectioners sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla bean paste until smooth. Drizzle over warm scones.
