Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

Prepare the Pear Filling

  • Peel and slice the ripe pears. In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears with freshly grated ginger, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gently toss until pears are evenly coated.

Make the Topping

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add softened unsalted butter and blend with fingers or pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Slowly add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until dough starts to come together.

Assemble the Cobbler

  • Pour pear filling into prepared 9x9-inch baking dish, spreading evenly. Sprinkle crumbly topping over pears, covering as much as possible.

Bake to Perfection

  • Bake in preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes until topping is golden brown and filling bubbles around edges. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve warm, ideally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
