Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (such as oregano, basil, thyme)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. These dry ingredients create the base of your flatbread chips, ensuring they have a light texture and the perfect garlicky hint. Next, add the olive oil and water to the dry mixture. Stir everything together until a dough forms. It might be slightly sticky but should come together easily. If it feels too dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time until it reaches a pliable consistency.

Step 2: Incorporate the Parmesan and Herbs

  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently knead in the grated Parmesan cheese and dried Italian herbs. These ingredients infuse the dough with flavor and texture, giving your chips that irresistible cheesy, herby punch. Knead just enough to evenly distribute the cheese and herbs without overworking the dough, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 3: Roll Out the Dough

  • Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into a thin, even rectangle or circle, about 1/8 inch thick. The thinner the dough, the crispier your chips will be after air frying. If the dough sticks to your rolling pin or surface, lightly dust with flour. Once rolled out, use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the dough into chip-sized pieces. Squares or triangles both work beautifully.

Step 4: Air Fry the Chips

  • Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3 minutes. Place the cut chips in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap to ensure even cooking. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Air fry the chips for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they’re golden brown and crisp.

Step 5: Cool and Serve

  • Carefully remove the chips from the air fryer and transfer them to a wire rack or paper towels to cool. They will crisp up further as they cool down. Once cooled, serve them alongside your favorite dip or enjoy them straight away as a crunchy snack.

Notes

  • Roll the dough very thin to ensure maximum crispiness of the chips.

  • For extra flavor, try adding cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the dough for a spicy kick.
