Ingredients

  • 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour (or whole wheat or gluten-free mix, about 5 oz in weight)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder (be sure it’s fresh for the best rise!)
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt (adjust if using table salt)
  • 1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt (Stonyfield recommended for the right texture)
  • 1 each egg white or whole egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Optional toppings everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried garlic flakes, dried onion flakes

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and kosher salt until well combined.
  • Add the Greek yogurt to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, divide it into 4 portions, and shape each into a bagel.
  • Brush the tops of the bagels with the beaten egg.
  • If using toppings, sprinkle them over the egg-washed bagels.
  • Bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rolling Pin
  • Oven

Notes

  • Check the expiration date on your baking powder for the best rise.
  • Don’t over-knead the dough to keep bagels tender.
  • Experiment with different toppings for unique flavors!
