Ingredients

For the Filling:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef for a hearty protein base
  • 1/2 cup yellow or sweet onion chopped
  • 1 whole jalapeño seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 can green chilies 4.5-ounce can
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water helps to combine the ingredients
  • 1/2 cup sour cream for creaminess
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise adds richness and moisture
  • 2/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese for that classic cheesy goodness

For the Crust:

  • 1 1/4 cup biscuit mix (Bisquick)
  • 1/3 cup water needed for the biscuit mix
  • 1 medium tomato diced
  • to taste Paprika optional, for garnish and extra flavor
  • to taste Avocado and shredded lettuce for serving, optional

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onions. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, until browned and onions are translucent.
  • Stir in the jalapeño, green chilies, taco seasoning, and 1/4 cup of water. Simmer for about 3-4 minutes, then remove from heat.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the biscuit mix and 1/3 cup of water. Stir until just combined to form a dough.
  • Spread half of the biscuit dough evenly in a greased baking dish to form a crust. Pour the beef filling over the crust, then spoon the sour cream and mayonnaise mixture on top. Sprinkle with cheese and diced tomatoes.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the remaining biscuit dough over the top of the filling.
  • Place in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, until the biscuit topping is golden brown.
  • Let cool for about 10 minutes, then slice into squares and serve warm topped with avocado, lettuce, and paprika if desired.
