Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¼ cup canola or vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Frosting:

  • 1 (8-ounce) block cream cheese softened
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 2 to 3 cups confectioners’ sugar or as desired
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon granulated sugar for topping

Instructions

Cooking Crème Brûlée Cookies: The Process

  • Step 1: Preheat Your Oven. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Step 2: Cream the Butter and Sugars. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, canola oil, granulated sugar, and confectioners’ sugar. Cream until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Step 3: Add the Wet Ingredients. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the creamed mixture. Beat until well combined.
  • Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Step 5: Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter together until creamy. Gradually add in confectioners’ sugar until you reach your desired sweetness.
  • Step 6: Scoop the Cookie Dough. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Step 7: Prepare for Baking. Sprinkle about ½ to 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar on top of each cookie.
  • Step 8: Bake the Cookies. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Step 9: Cool and Frost. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Frost each cookie with the cream cheese frosting.
