Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup chives finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing over the top of biscuits

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
  • Step 3: Add the cold, cubed butter and cream cheese to the flour mixture. Cut them into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step 4: Pour in the buttermilk and add the finely sliced chives. Stir gently until just combined.
  • Step 5: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Fold the dough over itself a few times to create layers, then roll it out again to about 1-inch thickness. Cut out your biscuits.
  • Step 6: Place the cut biscuits onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush the tops with melted butter, and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Step 7: Let the biscuits cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm!
