Ingredients

  • 1 can cinnamon rolls base of the cake with cinnamon swirl and soft texture
  • 2 medium apples peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup walnuts chopped, optional
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce for drizzling on top
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese softened, for glaze
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for glaze

Instructions

  • Peel and dice the apples into small, bite-sized pieces. Toss them in a bowl with the brown sugar, melted butter, and ground cinnamon until every piece is coated.
  • Open the can of cinnamon rolls and separate each roll. Place them in your greased 9-inch cake pan, pressing them together slightly but leaving a little space for the apples to seep through.
  • Evenly distribute the apple and brown sugar mixture over the cinnamon rolls. Sprinkle chopped walnuts on top if using.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the cake for 25-30 minutes until the rolls are golden brown and apples are tender.
  • While baking, mix together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a splash of milk if needed until smooth and creamy.
  • Once the cake has cooled slightly, drizzle caramel sauce generously over the top, then spoon or pipe the cream cheese glaze over the caramel.
  • Slice and serve the cake warm or at room temperature. Enjoy with coffee or tea.

Equipment

  • 9-inch Round Cake Pan
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith apples for tartness or Fuji/Honeycrisp for a sweeter flavor.
  • Substitute walnuts with pecans or almonds, or omit nuts for a nut-free version.
  • Make vegan by using vegan cinnamon rolls, dairy-free butter, plant-based cream cheese, and vegan caramel sauce.
  • Store leftover cake covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze without glaze for up to 2 months.
  • Add a splash of milk to the glaze if it becomes too thick for easier drizzling.
