Ingredients

For the Puff:

  • 3-4 large croissants cut up (about 5 to 5 ½ cups, around 10 ounces)
  • 1 cup blueberries fresh or frozen
  • 1 package cream cheese softened (8 ounce)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking.
  • Step 2: Cut the croissants into bite-sized pieces and place them into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread them out evenly.
  • Step 3: Sprinkle the fresh or frozen blueberries over the croissant pieces, ensuring even distribution.
  • Step 4: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sugar. Beat until smooth and creamy.
  • Step 5: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the lemon juice, lemon zest, and vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.
  • Step 6: Slowly whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  • Step 7: Pour the cream cheese mixture evenly over the croissant and blueberry layers in the baking dish. Gently press down to ensure all croissants are coated.
  • Step 8: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  • Step 9: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature!

Notes

  • For a more intense blueberry flavor, try macerating the berries in a little sugar and lemon juice for 30 minutes before adding them to the dish.
  • Let the Blueberry Croissant Puff sit for about 10 minutes after baking; this helps it set up a bit more for easier slicing.
  • Consider adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cream cheese mixture for a warm, spiced flavor.
  • This dish can easily be prepared the night before; simply assemble and refrigerate, then bake in the morning!
