Ingredients

  • 1 block extra firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 clove garlic grated
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

Stepwise Method

  • Start by pressing the tofu. Wrap the block of extra firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top (like a cast iron pan) for about 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  • Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes to help it cook evenly in the air fryer.
  • In a large mixing bowl, toss the tofu cubes with 1 tablespoon of low-sodium soy sauce and avocado oil. Sprinkle the 1/2 cup of cornstarch over the tofu and gently toss until all pieces are well coated.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  • Arrange the coated tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • While the tofu is cooking, combine the sweet chili sauce, grated garlic, 3 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce, water, grated ginger, sesame oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Once the tofu is crispy, transfer it to a large mixing bowl and pour the sweet chili sauce over it. Gently toss to coat the tofu evenly in the sauce.
  • Serve your Air Fryer Sweet Chili Tofu over rice, in a wrap, or as a snack. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions if desired.
