Start by pressing the tofu. Wrap the block of extra firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top (like a cast iron pan) for about 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes to help it cook evenly in the air fryer.
In a large mixing bowl, toss the tofu cubes with 1 tablespoon of low-sodium soy sauce and avocado oil. Sprinkle the 1/2 cup of cornstarch over the tofu and gently toss until all pieces are well coated.
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
Arrange the coated tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
While the tofu is cooking, combine the sweet chili sauce, grated garlic, 3 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce, water, grated ginger, sesame oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sauce thickens slightly.
Once the tofu is crispy, transfer it to a large mixing bowl and pour the sweet chili sauce over it. Gently toss to coat the tofu evenly in the sauce.
Serve your Air Fryer Sweet Chili Tofu over rice, in a wrap, or as a snack. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions if desired.
